By Terrence Mills

It has been proved by various researches and studies that by supplementing your diet with fish oil comprising of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, you can fight against the problem of “Acne”. Fish oil contains EPA and DHA fatty acids which are responsible for producing prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemical hormones that help in regulating the functioning of the cells and organs. They also control the androgen hormones in order to prevent the excessive production of sebum in the hair follicle and hence preventing the formation of acnes. Therefore, fish oil fights against acne.

How To Get Sufficient Amount Of EPA and DHA

It is very much necessary to get sufficient amount of EPA and DHA for the production of required prostaglandins. You can opt for the below-mentioned methods to have sufficient amount of EPA and DHA:

  1. You can take a fish supplement containing EPA and DHA. For e.g. you can eat salmon, halibut, and mackerel twice a week, as this will help in providing sufficient amount of EPA and DHA to your body.
  2. You can use Omega-3 Norwegian Fish Oil.
  3. You can also take capsules of EPA, DHA, and Omega-3. Two capsules of each EPA, DHA, and Omega-3 are of 360 mg, 240 mg, and 892 mg. respectively.
  4. You can take a tablespoon of cod liver oil or concentrated fish oil capsules with 1,500 mg EPA on daily basis.
  5. You can also take fish supplements containing Omega-6, as enzymes in our body break down Omega-6 into DGLA, AA, EPA and DHA fatty acids. These four fatty acids are responsible for producing prostaglandin hormone.

Prostaglandin Hormone

There is a production of two types of prostaglandins in our body: good prostaglandins and bad prostaglandins. The followings points will help you in having good production of good prostaglandins.

  1. Always take omega-6 and omega-3 in a ratio of 2:1 which means consumption of omega-6 should be twice as compared to omega-3.
  2. You should not consume excess amount of omega-6, as this will lead to the generation of bad prostaglandins.
  3. It is always recommended to take multivitamins and minerals along with the meal in order to break down the essential fatty acids into prostaglandins.
  4. It is advised to lower down the consumption of meat, saturated fat, dairy, and eggs in order to decrease the production of AA, as it inhibits the production of good prostaglandins.
  5. You should prefer to eat cold water fish twice a week in order to get required amount of EPA and DHA.
  6. It is good to have 20% of the diet calories from good fats like omega oils and fish oils. This will help in having a control over the inflammation of the acne.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are very helpful in fighting against acnes and inhibition of excessive secretion of sebum. Overproduction of the sebum leads to the blockage of the pores which further lead to the bacterial infections and result in the formation of acne.

Omega-3 fatty acids possess antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, and they are responsible for the maintenance of healthy cell membranes for the transportation of nutrients into the cell. Hence, a supplement of omega-3 fatty acid is best to treat the problem of acne.
